FAQ’s
What is cavity and how is it caused?
When the process of decay causes a breach in the outer surface of the tooth, it results in the formation of cavity. Cavitations further leads to food and plaque accumulation which in turn helps the spread of decay. It is important to control the spread of decay with a suitable filling at this stage in order to prevent further tooth destruction.
What are the types of fillings available to treat cavities?
There are varieties of fillings available, but the choice depends on the extent of cavity and patient’s desire for aesthetic treatment. Traditionally, cavities were treated with Silver Fillings. At Smileoracles, we have options for treating such cavities with tooth colored filling materials using bonding techniques requiring minimal cutting of the tooth.
What happens if cavities are left untreated?
Cavities become sites for food and plaque accumulation and accelerate decay. Untreated cavities may lead to sensitivity, pain, swelling and irreversible damage requiring extraction or root canal treatment.
What is root canal treatment (RCT)?
RCT is done when the pulp is irreversibly damaged. It involves removal of the pulp, disinfection of the canal and sealing it to prevent reinfection, thereby relieving pain and saving the tooth.
Is RCT a painful procedure?
Root canal procedures are done under local anesthesia and are usually painless. Mild discomfort after treatment can be controlled with medication.
How long does root canal treatment take?
RCT can be single-visit or multiple-visit depending on the case. Duration may range from 1–2 hours to a few weeks.
Is RCT 100% successful?
RCT has a very high success rate but no treatment is 100% guaranteed. Post-operative discomfort is common and usually temporary.
Is it necessary to put a crown after RCT?
RCT weakens the tooth, making it prone to fracture. A crown is recommended to protect the tooth.
What are preventive fillings?
Preventive fillings are tooth-colored restorations placed on surfaces prone to decay, helping prevent future complications.
What options do I have for preventing decay?
Good oral hygiene, regular dental visits, fluoride application, sealants, and professional cleaning help prevent decay.
How do I clean my baby’s teeth?
Use a soft cloth for newborns and finger brushes or baby toothbrushes for infants. Professional guidance is recommended.
My child is sucking thumb at 6 years. Is it normal?
Thumb sucking beyond 6 years is not normal and professional help should be sought.
What food helps prevent decay in kids?
Foods high in fiber and low in carbohydrates help prevent decay.
Why do gums bleed?
Bleeding gums indicate gum infection and should not be ignored. Untreated infection can lead to tooth loss.
Why should teeth be cleaned every 6 months?
Some areas cannot be cleaned by brushing alone. Regular checkups help detect early problems.
What is tooth jewellery?
Tooth jewellery is a painless, non-invasive cosmetic procedure to adorn teeth with sparkle.
Can discoloured teeth be whitened?

What are implants?

Can braces be done in adults?
