Dental Examination and X-ray
Periodic Dental checkups are an important part of preventive health care. Regular dental examination can help catch problems early—before you see or feel them—when they are much easier and less expensive to treat. During a routine dental checkup, we will clean your teeth and identify gum problems and tooth decay. Our specialist will also evaluate your risk of developing cavities and other oral health problems. Our comprehensive dental examination will evaluate your face, neck and mouth for abnormalities. A regular checkup might also include dental X-rays and other advanced diagnostic procedures.
Examination of tooth decay
Most cavities are discovered in the early stages during routine dental checkups. If the decay is not checked early then it may progress into a cavity. Depending on their extent and location the signs and symptoms of cavities may vary. When a cavity is just beginning, you may not have any symptoms at all. As the decay gets larger, it may cause signs and symptoms such as:
- Brown, black or white stains on any surface of a tooth
- Visible holes or cavities in your teeth
- Toothache / Tooth sensitivity
- Mild to sharp pain when eating or drinking something sweet, hot or cold
- Pain on biting
If the area of damaged tooth is not cavitated, it has the potential to arrest or stop the decay. At Smileoracles, we use an array of advanced diagnostic tests to detect tooth decay at an early stage. Dental x-rays and other diagnostic tests help detect cavities before they are visible to the eye. Needless to say our advanced diagnostic techniques with minimal invasive dentistry approach help prevent cavities in your teeth, reducing the need for fillings.
Examination of Gum Health
Gum disease or periodontal disease is a major cause for tooth loss in adults. It is an infection of the tissues surrounding and supporting your teeth. It is possible to have gum disease and have no warning signs for years. Some of the warning signs which might signal the presence of gum disease are:
- gums that bleed easily
- red, swollen and tender gums
- gums that have pulled away from the teeth
- bad breath or bad taste
- permanent teeth that are loose or mobile
- any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
The early stage of gum disease is called gingivitis. The disease is reversible at this stage and can be eliminated by professional cleaning, followed by daily brushing and flossing. Advanced gum disease is called periodontitis. Periodontitis can lead to the loss of tissue and bone that support the teeth and it may become more severe over time, eventually resulting in tooth loss.
A consultation at Smileoracles could help you with the prevention of gingivitis and periodontal disease and educate you on the DO’S AND DONT’S for the best gum health.
Examination of existing restorations and prostheses
If you have old fillings or other restorations and prostheses in your teeth, our specialists will examine their integrity. A meticulous examination of all of your existing fillings, crowns, bridgework, dentures, other dental materials and natural teeth will be performed. Magnification is used so not to miss any fractures, cracked teeth or deterioration. Occasionally we use intraoral cameras to record significant areas of concern. Sometimes diagnostic models will be required to accurately and completely record significant findings.
Many dental restorations can last for number of years, but unfortunately, many do not. A close examination of each restoration in the tooth will be done to evaluate if the restoration is still holding strong or if replacement is deemed necessary. We will also evaluate the aesthetics of your smile and colour of your teeth.
Screening for Oral Cancer
According to one study, oral cancer ranks in the top three of all cancers in India, which accounts for over thirty per cent of all cancers reported in the country. India can be regarded as the Oral cancer capital of the World, as we continue to report the highest prevalence globally. It is one of the most devastating and disfiguring malignancy.
At Smileoracles we are committed towards fighting this menace of Oral Cancer. During your routine dental examination we also screen your mouth for Oral Cancer using AV Magnivisualiser, a state-of-the-art device developed by Indian Council of Medical Research. Based on your medical history and clinical findings we not only help you with detecting oral cancer in the initial stage but also assess whether you are at risk of developing one. Early detection of oral cancers or pre-malignant lesions gives you a greater chance of recovery and helps you lead a good quality life.
